Hittin’ 25

12 Sep

I’ve officially hit the mid-twenties!

Can’t decide if the exclamation is a shoutout of joy or a gasp at the old age. Ever since the age of 10, I’ve had a love hate relationship with birthdays. As much as it is yet another excuse for celebration, reality hits that I’ve turned another year older, and soon I will be seeing grey hair and wrinkles. Superficial, I know.

This feeling hit me many years back. I realised once I turned 10, I had hit the two digit age and I was mulling over the fact that there was no turning back to being young. As much as it sounds immature now, I still can’t help but feel abit melancholic each time my birthday looms near.

xx

Well, at least my celebration perked things up quite a bit. M booked a one night’s stay at Klapson’s The Boutique Hotel for my birthday. It was meant to be a quiet affair for just the two of us. Pretty relaxing for a change, I must say.

Had brunch at The Plains Cafe at Craig Road before checking in

Got down to doing some housekeeping on our own. The jacuzzi was filled with some leaves since it was in the open air area.

Must say we were quite disappointed with the jacuzzi. We spent a whole lot of time cleaning up the jacuzzin before we went in for a dip. After draining out the water, there was a million specks of black dirt around the sides of the jacuzzi. We were pretty grossed out that we were actally soaking in that dirt. Can’t believe we spend so much time just washing up that tub over and over again!Photobucket

I know that jacuzzis aren’t suppose to have soap, but oh well..it made it more fun! Felt cleaner too haha

A whole lot of bubbly!

Our lunch! The room service food was exceptionally nice, maybe cos it was salty. Truffle fries and chicken wings. 😀

The only grouse was that for every room service we made, we were charged $10 extra. Never really heard of that in other hotels though. Maybe it’s just me..Photobucket

We didn’t even once step out of the room for the whole stay there. Watched movie after movie that was showing on the hopelessly grainy television. Ordered in more food, soaked in the jacuzzi, and repeat.

My bday cake, which wasn’t too bad. I think I finished half of it on my own and left the rest in the hotel..Photobucket

Apart from a few other grouses we had, this staycation came at a good time to get away from our stress. Not sure if I would head back there for another stay though. Not really keen on bending over to do more jacuzzi cleaning, since age is catching up anyway. Heh

Till the next!

Weekends that flash by

2 Apr

Hola!

This week’s gonna be busy busy. With a few plans coming up, I hope they all turn out pretty well (:

Thankfully it’s Good Friday today, which means no work! Love 4 day work weeks like these.

Leftover pictures from a couple of weeks ago!

Photobucket

Photobucket

This was our second time at Sukiya which was 3 weeks back. The following week (2 weeks ago) we had Sukiya again. Last week, we had Sukiya on Thursday, and again on Sunday. Omg, I think I’m officially sick of it. How to not grow fat having buffets constantly!Photobucket

Friday night out with Chris and Gwen at The Wine Company along Sentosa Boardwalk. First time at the Boardwalk! The ambience was pretty chillax which we liked but we were getting bites from insects so we moved into the aircon area. Haha.Photobucket

Sunday R&R time at Gwen’s condo. We started out with Muay Thai cos Rachel brought her pads.

It’s honestly quite a tiring sport, and I was so afraid of getting hit on my face! Not my sport, I reckon.

The long weekend

18 Mar

Had a good break of 5 days, and I must say that it felt GOOD to be away from work.

The only dampener was that the boss asked me to head down to office for 1-2 hours on a Friday noon. ):

Anyway, we planned a few things to do like explore some nice place to eat, donate blood, but we didn’t fulfil all.

OH, and we have been gyming religiously 6 times this week! I hope it won’t die off.

Pictures from the previous week!

Addicted with Draw Something. Super tired of it now haha.

More food on a Saturday night! We finally went Sukiya again, this time at Marina Square.

Ate till we wanted to explode, and I think it wasn’t even that much. I swear the age does us no good when it comes to buffet.

Only beef slices.

Photobucket

This time round, we chose the Sukiyaki soup base and the Kimuchi soup base. The latter is appetizing when the sweet Sukiyaki soup gets abit overwhelming.

I was craving so so badly for some chocolatey goodness, so I wiped off one whole Gooey Chocolate Monkey Tart all by myself. Bliss.Photobucket

Long weekend ended way too quickly! ):

Time to prepare for a week’s long of battle ahead.

Of marriage proposals and more

7 Mar

Congratulations to Joyce and Lionel, the cute penguin couple! First couple to get engaged in the group!

Super honoured to be asked by Lionel to help in his preparation plans (although I didn’t do anything in the end :x), and be part of the special proposal day! It’s my first time helping with such a romantic event…which I feel it’s super sweet.. awwww

Sunday Brunch: Pique ✽ Nique at Takashimaya

26 Feb

Yet another lazy Sunday!

We woke past noon and only stepped out of house at close to 3pm.

Guess who wanted to join us?

Photobucket

Royce was being cranky, blocking our way when we wanted to step into the car, and then climbing in on his own. Usually, he wouldn’t even want to step in, because car rides meant going to the vet.

xxx

Anyway! Our plan was to head to Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery. The place was full, and so we headed to Jones the Grocer to try our luck. 330pm, and both places were packed to the brim! Singaporeans really do eat all day long (:

Last stop, we finally decided to try Pique Nique at Takashimaya.

Photobucket

What we ordered.

Classic Benedicts
&
Hot ChocolatePhotobucket

Pancakes with Maple SyrupPhotobucket

Photobucket

Unfortunately, the food left us very unsatisfied. The Benedicts weren’t served on english muffins, and the ham was like those cheap ones found in supermarts. The hollandaise sauce didn’t pack a punch at all.

Pancakes were not bad, fluffy and all. Very simple, nothing much to rave about. The hot chocolate with marshmallows saved the day at least (:

Maybe we were extremely hungry and expecting too much. The food was quite disappointing, I must say. Most people ordered the dessert, maybe that’s what they are famous for.

If I ever do come back, I might likely try their desserts instead!

NLB & Steakout!

9 Feb

I finally managed to take a day off just to see the doctor for my nasal thing. Work has been so hectic that I can only choose one day in the middle of the week to take medical leave.

Anyway, on to happier things! We went out for a bit and kinda did an early V-day meal together.

 Nails with blings.

I digress.

Photobucket

Headed to National Library Board to see some exhibitions.

First up, From Books to Bytes – basically the history of NLB in chronological order.

Photobucket

Someone being bored as usual.Photobucket

Next, the main highlight – Stories behind Singapore StreetsPhotobucket

Photobucket

Interesting history of how Singapore’s street names came about, I would highly recommend anyone to check it out. Plus it’s free!

We wanted to check out the Adam Park exhibition but it wasn’t ready ):

xxx

Sights along the way to dinner.Photobucket

Photobucket

We wanted to try Republic of Steak – apparently cheap and good steak.Photobucket

It was replaced by Steakout. Not sure if it’s a change of name only or a change of owner altogether. Photobucket

Photobucket

We both wanted yummy thick steak, so we ordered the Tenderloin (S$27.80). Came with 2 sides which we could select.

Mine in medium rare with baked potatoes and coleslaw. My sides were nothing to rave about. The beef was fantabulous, if I must say. Done perfectly.

Photobucket

Photobucket

M’s Tenderloin in Medium, with corn cob and brocolli.Photobucket

The food definitely didn’t disappoint! Because we weren’t very hungry, we didn’t try any sides or desserts. Besides being well known for their steak, their menu includes sandwiches, pastas, and other main courses. I think we foresee ourselves coming back very often  (:

Rest day was well spent, but it’s back to work tomorrow to fight more battles.

Phuket 2011

22 Jan

Such an over dued post on our holiday! Felt like this was months ago, when we only went there during Christmas! Good break where we just lazed most of the time..Our 5 days trip in photos!

Day 1

Phuket – after touch down!

Photobucket

Our stay – Aspery Hotel. We paid almost double for the peak season but it was worth it nonetheless! (: And cos there was a dvd player in the room, we brought 6 dvds from Singapore! *gasp*

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Our first meal in Phuket – Western meal room servicePhotobucket

After lunch, we were up and about to check out our surroundings and get our bearings right.

1st stop: Patong Beach.
Just round the corner near our hotel, took us about 7-10 minutes to walk there.Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

We didn’t stay long at Patong Beach to tan or anything. Just to check out the crowd..

Headed to Junceylon Shopping Centre. The mall wasn’t too shabby actually, pretty nice with a cinema and some common shops.

Photobucket

We headed back to the hotel at late noon and napped till 9pm haha. Feeling like we wasted some time, we went to grab dinner nearby. Was super excited to get some authentic Thai food but it was pretty disappointing, so no photos. I think their dishes are cooked specially to cater to the Westerners there. That means, not spicy AT ALL.

Day 2: Patong Beach x Simon Cabaret Show

The hotel next to ours!

Photobucket

Spent like almost 4 hours at Patong Beach just relaxing with our books. Rented 2 chairs for 100baht each for that whole period. Around noon, there were a few ‘hawkers’ coming by with their huge baskets selling pre-cooked food. We had a barbequed corn and some fried prawn and chicken thing.

Photobucket

The weird cloud in the skyPhotobucket

Photobucket

The sign that can be seen everywhere.

Photobucket

Headed back to the hotel after a while and wanted to swim at the rooftop pool. But….Photobucket

We just headed back to prepare for our night activity in the end!Photobucket

Photobucket

The Simon Cabaret Show! Lots of pretty transgenders performing..it was unbelievable! Some were actually really HOT. They had a variety of performances like cultural dances and modern songs (lady gaga etc) and PhotobucketPhotobucket

After the show, everyone gets to see the performers up close. You get to take a photo with them as well, but of course they would be expecting some tips. I stole some really lousy shots ):

Ahhhh.. so pretty!Photobucket

Day 3: Full day Similan Island Tour

We had to get up at like 6 something? It was a 1.5 hour bus ride to the jetty..yawnsPhotobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

No, that’s not our boat ride haha.Photobucket

The jet boat ride to Similan Island was about another 1.5 hours. They insisted everyone take a motion sickness pill before the ride. True enough, it was kerazeeeee! The ride was so bumpy that every 30 seconds our butts would fly off the seats. Some  poor girl sitting opposite us was puking non-stop.

We did some stops in the middle of the sea to snorkel. My first few tries were bad and I thought I just didn’t know how to snorkel. The water kept entering my nose and I kept choking. Changed my equipment and it worked!

Disembarked at an island for lunch break!Photobucket

Photobucket

PhotobucketAnother few stops in the middle of the ocean and we were heading back to Phuket. Another 1.5 hours of bumpy ride and close to puking, and we were back on land. We should have just chosen Phi Phi Island or somewhere nearer zz

Headed to the road side seafood stall near to our hotel for some dinner. It wasn’t that enjoyable cos we still felt like we were on the boat, swaying and bobbing around.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Our green curry crab – only in Thailand 😀

Photobucket

Weird pincers which we didn’t dare to eat at first.

Photobucket

Day 4: Doing nothing

After so many days, we only went to try our hotel breakfast on the 4th day.

Quite a good spread (:

Photobucket

And we decided to spend our day at the rooftop pool!

Photobucket

Someone decided to be healthy and swim non stop. Her back ended up burnt and her front stayed white.

Day 5: Junceylon Shopping Centre

Did some shopping and lunched there.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Headed back to our hotel to do manicure and massage!

Photobucket

Yup, this marks the end of 5 days! It was a good break away from work and stress, I must say. Recharged us a fair bit for 2012.

Tomorrow’s CNY!!

Happy New Year! (: Let’s hope this Dragon year will be a good and prosperous one for all!
